Expire Page and autonav link

Is it currently possible to set an expire date for a page and have it's link removed from autonav? Is this a custome template issue as discussed here (http://www.concrete5.org/documentation/how-tos/developers/automatically-expire-pages-from-a-page-list-at-a-certain-time/)?

I believe if you enable "advanced permissions", it gives you the ability to set an expiration time on a page. Once the page expires, the autonav will no longer pick it up so it will be effectively be removed from the nav menu as well.
